Utamaro Uchiwa-bijin: The beginning of ukiyoe is reportedly a picture delineating a life of the people in the latter half of the 16th century. Then, woodprint skill progressed and Ukiyo-e spread to many people at the Edo period (1603-1867). The meaning of Ukiyo is "the transitory world" and "the actual world", and the meaning of E is a picture. Ukiyo-e of those days is equivalent to current posters and picture postcards.
