Ryu (Ryuu): Ryu is the Japanese kanji symbol of meaning "Dragon". The dragon is a mystical existence from ancient times. In Buddhism, the Ryu is the guardian deity called "Ryu-jin" which manages rain and clouds. It is said that the dragon summons a storm by howls, and the dragon becomes a tornado and ascends in the firmament. The tornado is called "Tatsu-maki" in Japanese. Tatsu (Ryu of native Japanese reading) is the kanji meaning "the dragon" and Maki is the kanji meaning "roll".
